An introduction to anti-wrinkle injection
A simple and effective way for structural facial rejuvenation is the anti-wrinkle injections or the so-called wrinkle fillers (aka facial fillers). Nowadays, the method of anti-wrinkle injection can be viewed as a very old tradition, as well as one of the classics in aesthetic medicine. If you are unpleased with wrinkles on your forehead or other facial wrinkles or if you want to get rid of wrinkles around your mouth and nose without any surgery, anti-wrinkle injection can be a good alternative for you. This method can also be applied to the cheeks or lips which increases the volume of the lips. Even unpleasant and ugly wounds can be slowly cured and smoothed with filler injections.
When anti-wrinkle injection is right for me?
Using this method, wrinkles can be eliminated effectively and quickly. With this method, a significant facial rejuvenation can be achieved which often leads to improved morale and increased self-esteem. If you do not want to use face lift surgery to remove wrinkles on your face, anti-wrinkle injection will be a very good method for you.
Anti-wrinkle injection methods
In order to wrinkle treatment, various materials such as hyaluronic acid or hydroxyapatite are used as fillers that naturally present in the body. However, non-degradable materials with permanent results may also be used. Implants that are usually available in the form of a gel are directly injected underneath the wrinkles and create a balance in the skin properties through facial volumization. Injection is done with topical anesthetics. The effect of this treatment is immediately visible after injection.
Anti-wrinkle injection is always done with sharp needles, which has the risk of bleeding for the patient, depending on the diameter of the needle used. Using needles with large diameter is especially essential for thicker fillers that are used for treating deep wrinkles, liquid lifting or enhancing facial features. In some cases, a tip-less cannula can be used that protects the tissues and therefore reduces the risk of bleeding. When working with tip-less cannulas (pix’l cannulas, magic needles, etc.), a short cannula is used to create a hole in the skin. Prior to that, the desired area was briefly anesthetized. Then the flexible cannula is inserted through the hole created in the tissue layer. This requires special skill and training.
Another innovation is the use of the anteis injection system. In this method, a manual system is used, which allows for a perfectly uniform injection with constant pressure. Using this injection system is clearly remarkable for patients, since it makes the injection significantly less painful and therefore results in a significant increase in comfort. The possibilities and limitations of using injectable materials always depend on the recommendations of experienced physician.

Investigation of injectable fillers
Absorbable fillers
Hyaluronic acid (e.g. Restylane, Belotero, Surgiderm, Varioderm)
It is a material that matches very well with the body and can be immediately used as a gel without the need for an injection test (to remove allergies). Hyaluronic acid can also be used for creating cheek dimples or lip volumization. Hyaluronic acid is also suitable for hand rejuvenation. The shelf life of this gel is 6 to 10 months.
Hyaluronic acid with topical anesthetics (eg Juvederm Ultra, Voluma, Volift)
These products include hyaluronic acid and a small amount of anesthetics. This makes the injection easier for patients. However, there may be a slight allergy to topical anesthetics.
Hydroxylapatite in carboxymethyl cellulose (Radiesse)
This filler is well tolerated, free of allergy and has a shelf life of 8 to 15 months. It is suitable for wrinkle repairing, lip volumization and tissue defect reconstruction, such as indented scars. This substance stimulates the formation of internal connective tissue. The absorbent implants listed above are broken down after a certain time and are excreted by the body.
Semi-permanent materials
Polyamide (Aquafilling)
This semi-stable filler contains 98% physiological saline solution and 2% Three-dimensional polyamide matrix. There are 2 different types available for different applications: Aquafilling faceline is suitable for treating wrinkles and forming the cheek or chin area. Lip and nasal correction are also possible with this filler. Aquafilling bodyline is also suitable for enlarging and modeling the chest area. Its shelf life is over 5 years.
Which wrinkles can be corrected by anti-wrinkle injection?
Below is an overview of wrinkles that can be corrected using a filler.

– Forehead wrinkles
Transverse forehead wrinkles are in fact treated by Botox. If the patient refuses Botox treatment or the result of Botox treatment is not satisfactory, injection with hyaluronic acid can be used for transverse forehead wrinkles. Medium viscosity preparation should be used; otherwise unpleasant results may occur.
– Frown lines
Frown line, just like forehead wrinkles, make a person look serious. Initially, treatment should be done with Botox injections. This relaxes muscles and erases wrinkles. Treatment with fillers can only be done when the patient refuses Botox treatment. In this case, due to the mechanical stresses of face expressions, treatment has a short duration. For those with very serious appearance, the filler may occasionally pass through the initial injection area.
– Eye wrinkles (crow’s feet)
Treatment of eye wrinkles with hyaluronic acid seems like a challenge, as these wrinkles are usually very fine. Due to their surface position, only low viscosity fillers can be used. This significantly limits their shelf life. Treatment with Botox is more effective and especially has often a wonderful effect on this area. If deep eye wrinkles persist after treatment with Botox, using hyaluronic acid may be helpful.
– Cheek wrinkles
Skin wrinkles are created because of both facial expressions and weakened tissues at an old age. Correction of cheek wrinkles by injection of hyaluronic acid is totally possible by experienced physicians and usually brings good results for the patient. Injection into wrinkles is not an easy task and should therefore be done only by experienced physicians.
– Nasolabial wrinkles
Nasolabial wrinkles extend from the edge of the nose to the mouth’s outer corners. The emergence of these wrinkles is due to both facial expressions and loss of volume or elasticity at an old age. These wrinkles can be easily treated by injection of hyaluronic acid. Mild cannula can be used in this case. Suitable fillers for this area are medium and high viscosity fillers.
– Wrinkles around mouth (laugh lines)
These wrinkles extend from the corner of the mouth perpendicular to the chin and often cause the person to have a grumpy appearance. These wrinkles can be treated by the injections of hyaluronic acid into wrinkles. Technically, they are often a challenge. The best result is obtained using a mild canola (Pix’l).
– Chin wrinkles
Chin wrinkles usually occur at the outside edges of chin. They are easily treated by injection of hyaluronic acid. A mild cannula or one size larger can be used for injection. For this purpose, a medium to thick viscosity preparation is used.
